For developed countries, when it comes to climate change, it’s all about numbers. When a cyclone comes to Tuvalu and people die, it’s just a number: 1, 2, 3, 5, 10 people have died. For us it’s very different. It’s very hard.
People look at Tuvalu and say, ‘ah well there’s only 10000 people. It’s ok. It’s not a big deal.’ But we know those people. We know their faces. So for us it’s very hard.
So I guess my message is this: We’re not just numbers.
